The Importance of Hypertrophy and Bench Press PR’s for the High School Squad

This was a huge bench press week for my high school group. We hit big time PR’s all around on both the bench and the scale. For my high school athletes gains in lean body mass are a gamechanger when it comes to both injury reduction and performance.

As much as we talk about things like mobility and motor control, don’t forget that when it comes to injury reduction often one of the best things you can do for young athletes is just build some good old-fashioned armor.

For high school athletes playing high velocity, physical sports like football, hockey, lacrosse adding size and strength will not only benefit performance but also help them tolerate the bumps and bruises better than their less muscular counterparts.

Always ensure that your athletes move well but after that a consistent dose of QUALITY strength training, sleep and food will do more to curb injuries than anything you can do with a resistance band or a massage tool.
