Anti-Extension Regressions: Bear Plank to Short Plank to Front Plank

The ability to control the relationship between your rib cage and pelvis in the sagittal plane is foundational to developing higher levels of core strength and power down the road.

Very often we think of The Front Plank as being the entry level progression for clients pursuing anti-extension core strength. However, I find that most gym-goers need to start a couple steps further back in order to develop the foundational motor control necessary to Plank correctly. By shortening the lever and slightly flexing the hips you allow the trainee to better control the relationship between their pelvis and ribcage.

Check out the video above where I go over two regressions: The Bear Hold and The Modified Short Plank as well as teach you how to achieve the right positions and cues to get the most out of your front plank.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
